Selfridges commissioned Sibley Grove to design Reselfridges, a bespoke accessories destination showcasing a curated selection of pre-loved accessories, in their London, Birmingham and Manchester stores. Using our Design for Disassembly approach, the goal was to create store fixtures and display elements that could be easily disassembled, repaired, reused, refurbished or recycled, reducing the environmental impact, whilst creating an exciting, impactful and unique retail space.
The design strategy was to keep within the vernacular of the store, creating a clean, contemporary and elegant space that allowed the products themselves to shine. Every fixture and fitting required design thinking and technical knowledge to create a luxury aesthetic that will easily be repaired, refurbished, reused or recycled at the end of its current use. It was important to use screws and physical fixings that allowed display components to be easily disassembled into component parts. Designing the displays in a modular way ensures that Selfridges can reuse elements in other stores and other display contexts. Many of the fixtures were designed within a 0.5-millimetre tolerance, adding the feeling of excellent craftsmanship synonymous with luxury design. This also ensures that the fixtures are built to the highest quality and will stand the test of time and the rigours of the world’s most prominent department store.
